Propaganda

Propaganda is used throughout the whole world, Propaganda is posters or objects that are shown to people and also the public so they could persuade or gain influence from it. An example of propaganda is the car advertisement, usually when you see a car advertisement there would also be a girl or a pretty in it too. This is propaganda, because it is trying to persuade people that if you use or buy this car you would get the girls also. During the Russian revolution and the rise of Stalin many Propaganda posters were shown throughout Russia , to gain influence from the peasants around Russian so that the government or the leader would gain full support and would be able to control Russian easily. In this blog I would show you some examples of propaganda in Russia, and give a brief explanation of what each propaganda poster it’s about.

Socialism means peace and building up. This poster is trying to get people to turn to believe in socialism, it’s trying to get people to change from other types of government to socialism. The poster is telling people that if they support socialism they could improve their lives, and the war that is happening would stop. It conveys the message by the picture of the Soviet Union or the USSR, and also the picture of the cranes are showing that from turning to trust in socialism could bring them new life and they would build up a new Russia together. Also the red color was the color of socialism or communism. Another thing is that the crane represents agriculture, and the soviet symbol of the hammer represents agriculture. The effectiveness that the poster has is the pictures of the crane because it’s trying to get people to think that socialism would build up Russia again and to build building cranes need so it’s the effect part of the poster. Our Fatherland is in danger: Crisis of economy, Confrontation, Criminality, Separatism. The poster is trying to get the Russians to group up, because Russia where separated into many religions and nationalities which would cost the separation and discrimination that would happen, and it would be harder for the communist party to rule so they try to unite Russia together. Not only because of the different nationalities also is the trouble happening in Russia separating Russia into small groups. The posters conveys its message by showing hands pulling the Russian flags which are causing it to rip apart into small bits and pieces which is used to represent the separation into little groups inside Russia. The thing that is very effective about the poster is the flag which is used to represent the country, and the hands which are use to represent the causes which shows clearly what the poster is trying to tell us, and want us to do. To a youth who is thinking about life: You need to take as a rule to try with all your might to not move away from Lenin. This person is in our human condition the most correct prophetic instance. The poster is showing Lenin or the leader of the communist party in Russian and the message of the poster it’s giving out the message that Lenin is a very good leader and he could help you in education, which could give you a better chance of improving your life. The poster also gives out the message that Lenin is the best person that is alive on earth, which would also help him be able to gain influence from the peasants easier. The poster conveys the message by showing Lenin as a good looking man which made him look like a good leader, and the small glasses on his face shows him as an educated person. The thing that is very effective about the poster is that the poster shows Lenin as a good looking man which the poster say he is like the best person of human, which because of his look on the poster would make people think that way also. Our era calls - forward! The five year plan calls - forward! The poster is trying to spread the idea of the 5 year plan which Stalin had used to improve the agriculture and industrialization in Russia. The poster is trying to get people to support the 5 year plan so that they could improve the industrial and agriculture in Russia, Stalin also said that if they support the 5 year plan they will be no more starvation and poverty in Russia. The poster convey its message by showing the man which is big and strong wearing red or supporting communist and the 5 year plan. It shows that if you support the 5 year plan you would be big and strong like the person in the poster. The thing that is very effective about the poster is showing the big strong man, because people were starving and having a hard time, but when they see this they would think if they support the idea of the 5 year plan they would be able to be big and strong like the man in the poster. We learn from Lenin... In order to lead, you need to know the job and to be a great manager. The poster shows Lenin or the communist leader, and the poster is supporting Lenin, and trying to gain support from the peasants to support Lenin to be the leader of Russia. The poster is telling that Lenin knows how to rule, and he also knows how to rule the country fairly. He could also know how to manage Russia to get it to a higher level, and help the peasants from starvation. The poster conveys its message by showing a picture of Lenin and trying to make the poster as simple as possible so the poster would be easy to read and understand, and still it also has some red to show communism. The most effective thing of the poster is that the poster is simple and it makes helps make the people understand the poster clearly which in a way could be very effective. All power to soviets! Peace to all nations! Land to peasants! Factories to workers! The poster is trying to tell us that Lenin will help them gain power, peace, give land to peasants, and work to the workers. The poster is trying to gain influence from the peasants and the other working class people, and its telling them if they want a better life or a better job they should help support Lenin and they will get what they want, and improve their lives to a better on. The thing that the poster is trying to get the people to do is to help support Lenin and the communist party. The poster conveys it message by showing Lenin holding the Pravda which was the newspaper he made to help gain support from the peasants, and also the red color in the poster shows the color of communism. And the idea of the poster was to spread communism. The thing that it’s effective about the poster is the message that is written on the poster, because it is straight forward which make it easy to understand.

Propaganda is used in many parts of the world to gain influence or to get support from each of the part it is used. Propaganda had a major impact during the Russian Revolution, the rise of Lenin and Stalin. If there were no propaganda posters the Russian Revolution may not had be this effective, and also Stalin would not be able to have as much power as he had. The propaganda poster is trying to gain influence to support the communism in Russia. Propaganda is used for both good influences and bad influences. Some of them are lying to people to gain support from them but after that the thing that are shown in the propaganda are not true. So propaganda could be good and bad depending on what it is used for. After the Russian Revolution propaganda was used in many other big events, such as World War 2 were Hitler use propaganda to make people support him and to fight in the War.

Sneak Peak of the 1930's

During the 1930's there were many crisis and events that happen like the Dust Bowl and the depression that happened. There are also unfair situations which need improvements, here I posted some of the people, events, technology, and some other interesting facts about the 1930's so many it could give some more information that you might want to know

Important People of the 1930’s

Franklin D. Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945): He was the president of the United States of America in the 1930’s to the 1940’s. He was the 32 president of America. He was the only president that serves for more than 2 years term. He was considered one of the greatest presidents, because during events like the great depression he helped the unemployed people with a thing that he created called the new deal. Roosevelt was the only child in the family and both of his parents where wealthy people in New York. Roosevelt was usually brought to Germany with his mother where he learns things like shooting, playing tennis, and ride. When he grew up he got married to Anna Eleanor Roosevelt. During his early years of politics he ran for New York State Senate, and then he was elected to be the assistant secretary of the navy in 1913. Then in 1920 he was elected to be one of the candidates to run for the US vice president. In 1921 Roosevelt was believe to catch an illness which lead to him getting polio. During that them he bought a resort and made it into a place where polio patients could go and get therapy there. Roosevelt had his first term of the United States president in the year 1933. Frances Coralie Perkins (April 10, 1882 – May 14, 1965): she was the first lady to be appointed to the cabinet. She was a supporter to her friend Franklin D. Roosevelt with the idea of the new coalition deal. She was born in Boston Massachusetts, but she spent her early age at Worcester. In 1929 Roosevelt made her the industrial commissioner which she expand factory investigations, and reduced work hours, and championed about low wage and insurance for workers. Then in 1933 Roosevelt made her the secretary of the labor department which she worked for 12 years the longest secretary labor. Also she was one of the two people which are the secretaries for the whole of Roosevelt president term. She was one of the people which president Roosevelt always supported the ideas and things she was going to do. Also she had a hand to help in with the new legislation which the new deal.

James Cleveland "Jesse" Owens (September 12, 1913 – March 31, 1980): Jesse was an American track and field athlete. He was born in Lawrence County, but then his family moved to Cleveland Ohio. He had a sickness from he was still child which his mother called the devil’s cold. He got his named Jesse from a teacher which couldn’t understand him saying J.C. He was not a wealthy person and had taken jobs in his free time to help out his parents. He started his running by junior high coach, which was Charles Riley. Instead of staying after school to practice Jesse practiced in the morning, because in the afternoon he would have to go work in a shoe shop. Owen started to get the attention of the national team when he was in high school. He was in a 100meter dash and his run got a tied with the world record. In the summer Olympics of 1936 in Berlin Germany, he won four gold medals. Hitler by then thinks that all Germany athletes should win, and he shook hands only with the Germany winners and left the stadium. Jesse surprised Hitler by winning four medals. Also Jesse was allowed to stay in the same hotel with the whites which usually the blacks were not allowed to do. Important Events of the 1930’s

The Dust Bowl: the term dust bowl was use for the people was living in the time of the great depression. More wheat growing was happening, because of the price that people around the world was paying for it, so farmer planted more and more wheat without thinking of what would have happen to the land. With this happening millions of acres of farm land were destroy. In the 1930’s more and more wheat was grown which made the price of the wheat down. Most of the famers went broke.
Some of the famers still fight on growing the crops. Then in the year of 1934 drought came. A more severe storm that had happen in history struck the country. Then came rain, floods, and blizzards. After winter of blizzards drought again happened. Then again dust storms which came and destroy the crops of the farmers. Then on April 14, 1935 which people know as black Sunday came. In the late 1935 most of the things that happen are considered normal for people who lived there. After the event of the Dust Bowl that happens, the Dust Bowl thought farmers new ways of farming.

The Wagner Act of 1935: The workers made up group to bargain with the employer about having better working conditions, which mad the employer use force to stop them. President Roosevelt then tried to help by telling the National Industrial Recovery Act, but they didn’t help so the president made the Wagner Act which was named after Robert Wagner which gave the rights to the to bargain with the employer. This was one of the important event during the 1930’s, because back then the workers had a very dangerous job, because of the low safety precautions in their jobs, they also had to work many hours a day, and for it they get low salary in return so when this law was pass out the workers would have more chance in equality. ( This was an important event, because workers were treated unfairly, they had low salary, had to work many hours in a day, and their jobs have low safety precautions, so with this new law the workers could have more voice to make their work better and safer.)

World War 2: It was the most deadly war in history. The cause of World War 2 was, because of World War 1. After World War 1 the 3 countries like Germany, Japan, and Italy was in great depression, but after a while they recovered not like America which had their great depression. Then the 4 dictatorship rose in Germany, Japan, Italy, and the Soviet Union. The 4 people were Josef Stalin, Emperor Hirohito, Benito Mussolini, and Adolf Hitler. This rulers promise that they would reform the country through unity, but secretly they kill or imprison people who are against them. The start of World War 2 was believed to be when Japan attacked Manchuria. During the time Spain was in civil war and Hitler supported it. The British Priminister and Hitler had meeting for peace which they said that they will give Hitler Czechoslovakia, and Hitler would not try to go invade and get more land. But then Hitler broke his word when he invaded Poland. Then Germany got control of parts around it, and also invade France, which France sign the armistice and had fallen. First America didn’t want to join the war but instead sent weapons and money to help the allies. But then Japan bombed the Pearl Harbor which made the America joined the war and dropped atomic bombs in Japan cause the Japanese to lose, which help the allies win the war. Advance Technology of the 1930’s

Frozen foods: in May 1931 the first frozen food that was made by Clarence Birdseye was sold at Ring field, Massachusetts. Clarence was considered the father of frozen food. His industry make frozen food by using a technique called flash freezing, to quickly freeze the food. The freezing was very quick that it didn’t damage the cell inside the food and so it could be heated and eat again. The equipment he used was a double belt freezer. Fish was the first thing to be froze, but then meat and other products are frozen too.(this was a technology which still effect us today, because now you could find frozen food in most of the minimarts around, so it was one of the important technologies)( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_Patent_1773079_%28Fig_1%29.jpg)

Helicopter: the helicopter was made by a man named Henrich Focke in Germany. First he and his friend Focke Wulf made a company which design gliders or aircrafts. During the second war world he was fired and out of job then he again got with a man name Gerd Achgelis and made another company up which is named the Focke Achgelis, and there he experiment an aircraft with a vertical takeoff and landing which was then called the Convertiplano. Then Focke worked on a model which was called the Beija-Flor. Benja. The test of in 1959 then is was use in a testing campaign until it crash and it was believe that the experiment of the Beija-Flor was stopped. (It was an important technology improvements, because then experiments of helicopters after that continue until we have the helicopters we used today)

Other Interesting Facts

Musician (Charlie Parker): He was born in Kansas City, Missouri and he was the only child. Charlie didn’t show any of his music talents when he was young. At the age of 11 he started to play saxophone. He joined the school band when he was 14. Parker practice hard and was able to play to play all twelve keys of the saxophone. In 1939 he moved to New York. He started his musician career there; also there he worked as a dishwasher which he earns $9 a week. Charlie then became one of the figures of bebop music. But then he became addicted to morphine. Charlie died in his friend room while watching a show, because of his drug and alcohol abuse. Fashion and Fads: during the 1930’s the fashion of Paris was getting to expensive for people only the wealthy people could afford it. So the designer designs cheaper cloths to wear. The cloth was a simple dress with a waist line, which was first use by the Hollywood stars, but then it became wide spread for the first time because it’s not expensive, and there are many types like longer for the evening and shorter ones for the afternoon. For the men the fashion was the wide and high waisted pants, and the sweaters were made to fit the other clothing of the men. Important Discovery (blood transfusion): Karl Landsteiner discovered the 3 blood groups of people in 1930 and he receive a noble prize. The first blood bank was created in 1932 in Russia, then in Bernard Fantus started a blood bank in the United States and discovered a method use to store blood, and also the blood bank spread throughout the United States. In 1939 a group of scientist which was Karl Landsteiner, Alex Wiener, Philip Levine and R. E. Stetson discovered that the reaction of blood transfusion was cause by the Rhesus, lesser reactions happen to the patients which had blood transfusion.
